Timber and Engineered Flooring

The subfloor decides the result

Cupping, gapping and hollow sounding boards almost always trace back to what happened before the first board went down. We moisture test the slab or subfloor, let the timber acclimatise on site and level anything out of tolerance. Skipping that saves a day and costs you the floor.

Solid timber flooring

Blackbutt, spotted gum, Tasmanian oak and reclaimed hardwood. Can be sanded back multiple times over its life, so it outlasts everything else in the room.

Engineered flooring

A real timber wear layer on a stable ply core. More forgiving over concrete slabs and with heating underneath, and it arrives pre finished.

Hybrid and laminate

Waterproof, hard wearing and quick to install. The practical choice for rentals, wet areas and households with dogs and children.

Repairs and board replacement

Replacing water damaged or split boards, re fixing squeaks and matching new timber into an old floor so the repair disappears.

What is included in a flooring install

FAQ

Timber and Engineered Flooring questions, answered

Can you lay floorboards over concrete?

Yes. Engineered and hybrid boards are the usual choice over a slab because they handle moisture movement better. Solid timber can go down over a slab with a battened or ply subfloor and a moisture barrier. We test the slab first either way.

Solid or engineered flooring?

Solid timber can be resanded several times and lasts generations, but it moves more with humidity and needs a suitable subfloor. Engineered is more stable, easier over concrete and comes pre finished, but you can only sand it once or twice. Ground floor slab usually points to engineered, timber subfloor usually points to solid.

Can you match new boards to my existing floor?

Often yes. Species, board width and age all matter, and older floors have colour that new timber has to catch up to. We source the closest match and can stain to blend. On very old floors we are honest when a seamless match is not realistic.

How long before I can walk on a new floor?

Pre finished engineered and hybrid floors are walkable the same day. Site finished solid timber needs the coating to cure, which usually means light foot traffic after a day or two and furniture back after about a week.

Do you remove the old floor covering?

Yes. We lift and dispose of old carpet, tiles or floating floor as part of the job unless you would rather handle it yourself, which brings the quote down.
